Gorillas & Gentle Shores: 6-Day Rwanda Gorilla Trekking and Lake Kivu Safari

a 6-day itinerary that includes Rwanda’s famous gorilla trekking experience and a visit to Lake Kivu. The trip will also take you to Ruhengeri to trek the Gorillas in volcanoes national park, then to Gisenyi where you will relax at lake Kivu, take a canoe ride before proceeding to Nyungwe Forest National Park where you either do chimpanzee trekking or the adrenaline canopy walk.

Day 1: Arrival in Kigali International airport
Depending on your arrival time, our company representative will meet and greet you, he will pick you up and transfer you to the hotel check-in and rest. If time allows, explore Kigali in the afternoon, visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial, Richard kandht house, inema art center and enjoy local cuisine to experience Rwandan food. Then transfer to Musanze during afternoon time and explore ibyiwacu cultural village to learn about Rwanda culture where you will observe some of local activities like medicines, dancing, later evening you will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay in volcanoes national park. Accommodation: Mount Gorilla view lodge/ Le Bambou Gorilla Village / Kiningi Guest house. Meal plan: Dinner

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes and transfer to Gisenyi
Early morning gorilla trekking adventure in Volcanoes National Park. You will have breakfast and head to park offices for briefing about rules and regulations before entering the forest in search for the gorillas. After you will be assigned a gorilla family and guide who will lead you to the forest. After you find the gorillas, you will be allowed to spend one hour with them to observe them and watch them play, feed, breast-feeding the young ones, among other daily activities. Afternoon at leisure or optional activities such as a visit to the Dian Fossey Tomb. Accommodation options: Mount Gorilla view lodge/ Le Bambou Gorilla Village / Kiningi Guest house.

Day 3: Kivu lake Adventure and coffee tour.
Have morning breakfast and after, go on a boat ride and thereafter, transfer to Kimbiri. At cyimbili, go on fascinating tour to the artisanal coffee tour plantations. While here, you will explore more about coffee plantation from land to the cup. After the coffee tour, proceed with a boat to Kibuye and enjoy lunch with fresh foods. Spend a capo munity relaxing at lake shore, then discover the lake by kayaking to the bat island, leave the boat and do the hiking to Napoleon Island, enjoy it’ great views, take your time to take good souvenirs pictures and embarking the boat again heading to the shores for departure to the hotel for evening relax and stay.

Day 4: The Canopy way walk adventure and Tea experience.
Wake up to a relaxed morning breakfast and thereafter, the driver will pick you up and drive to Nyungwe forest National Park for your afternoon activities start by the canopy way walk, discover this one which is 70 meters suspended metallic bridge, this one will give you a great overview of Nyungwe forest and on a luck day spot one or two more primates in the forest as you take a walk on this bridge. After this great experience proceed with tea plantation visit, Gisakura tea gardens, learn on how tea if plated to harvesting time and processing. You will take great photos and later drive back to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5: Chimpanzee trekking and Colobus Monkey Trek.
Rise up early and drive to the park headquarters for briefing and departure for the chimpanzees, the trek may last for about 2-6 hours depending on the location of the chimpanzees. When you found them, you will have one hour with them as you watch them go about their daily activities. Thereafter, head back to uwinka reception take lunch and a bit relax for afternoon activity, have briefing before you head to search for the colobus monkeys, and on finding them, you will be allowed to spend one hour with them and take as many photos as you wish. To day you are done with adventure and head to the hotel for evening stay and relax.

Day 6: Back to Kigali and king palace museum.
Have your breakfast and leave hotel by 9am to drive around 6 hours, have en-route lunch and stopover for leg stretching, visit Nyanza King’s Palace Museum, the King’s Mutasa III Rudahigwa’s Palace. It offers a detailed look into the Rwandan monarchical system and its abolition in early 1960s due to colonialism. You will arrive in Kigali in the evening, depending on your schedules, the driver will drop you off at the hotel or at the airport for departure flight back home.
