A 5-day gorilla and chimpanzee trekking adventure in Uganda from Kigali is an exciting journey that allows you to experience the unique wildlife and natural beauty of the region. During these 5 days, you will visit Bwindi impenetrable forest national park for gorilla trekking and then transfer to Kibale for Chimpanzee trekking.

Day by Day Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Kigali To Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

After breakfast, you’ll be driven from Kigali to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park in southwestern Uganda. The drive takes approximately 4-5 hours.
On arrival, check into the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Accommodation option: Ichumbi gorilla lodge, Rushaga gorilla haven

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking And Afternoon Batwa

Early morning breakfast, and then you’ll head to the park headquarters for a briefing on gorilla trekking.
After the briefing, you’ll embark on your gorilla trek. The trek can take several hours, depending on the location of the gorilla group you’re assigned to.
Once you locate the gorillas, you’ll have a magical hour with them, observing their behavior and taking photos. Return to the park headquarters then to the lodge for relaxation. Afternoon go on Batwa community walk where you will meet and interact with the locals in the community. Later evening, return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Transfer To Kibale Forest National Park

After breakfast, you’ll drive to Kibale Forest National Park, known for its chimpanzee populations. You will have lunch enroute and proceed to Kibale forest national park arriving in the afternoon, check in to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Chimpanzee Trekking And Bigodi Wetland Walk

Wake up for morning breakfast and head to the park headquarters for briefing about chimpanzee trekking, you will be accompanied by the ranger guide to begin the search for the chimpanzees. Being wild animals, they tend to move a lot in search for food therefore, the trek may last for about 1-6 hours depending on the location of the chimps on that particular day. You will encounter other primates in the forest like the Monkeys, baboons among others. After you found them, you will be allowed one hour with them as you watch them play, feed, groom young one among other daily activities. After, you will return to the lodge for relaxation and lunch.
In the afternoon, you will go and visit Bigodi wetland sanctuary (Optional), where you will encounter several primate species, array of bird species and where also chimpanzees are frequent visitors.
Dinner and overnight stay at the lodge.

Day 5: Return To Kigali

After breakfast, you’ll drive back to Kigali, with a stopover for lunch along the way.
Depending on your departure time, you might have a chance to explore Kigali and visit the Genocide Memorial Center.
Depart from Kigali for your onward journey or flight home.
